Let me introduce myself

I am a thirty-something new mom of a precious red-headed boy.  I am also an English teacher; lover of food, books, and yoga; and a woman trying to remain calm in this world of crazy.  Like many people now, I am on a quest to “clean up” my life.  I have always been pretty passionate about staying in shape and eating healthy, but I began digging deeper into the world of “going green” a few months ago and I was both shocked and surprised at what I have learned.

I began by trying the now popular Paleo diet and following an exercise routine, but I did not feel or see much of a difference.  My sister-in-law told me about the Whole30 eating plan, and she even bought me a copy of the book.  I read the book (yes, the whole thing) and followed the plan.  I gained a lot of knowledge from the book and I can honestly say that after changing my eating habits, (the Whole 30 is NOT a diet plan, it is a lifestyle change) I felt a difference and I lost weight without even trying!  I do still follow the Whole30 plan to a degree.  I drink organic milk, but I’ve noticed that eating cheese upsets my stomach so I stay away from that.  I have gone mostly gluten free, only eating grains such as oatmeal and whole wheat.  I have cut out refined sugars and processed foods.

After this kick, I began reading up on pesticides and chemicals which are found in pretty much everything.  I have switched my cleaning products, my baby’s diapers, and even my makeup now.  I do not claim to be an expert in the area of buying or using organic; I am constantly learning new information everyday.  This is something that I have become passionate about.  I have not started this blog to force my views down anyone’s throat or make it seem as though I am trying to “green-ify” EVERYTHING (my husband is in the oilfield, by the way); I just want to share my experiences with changing the way I am living.  I want this to be a place where others can share their views and opinions on the same or where others can come to gain further information.

Happy reading!
