Guayake (gwy-uh-kee) Yerba Mate (yer-bah mah-tay)!

I discovered this drink in the organic and health section of my local Kroger.  The cans of the sparkling yerba mate were on sale so I decided to buy a couple of cans and try it.  Wow!

This drink is filled with vitamins and minerals and is made from naturally caffeinated leaves of a holly tree in South America.  These leaves have been used for years to make teas.  This provides me with the perfect amount of energy to make it through the rest of the day.  I don’t get the jitters or crash that comes with drinking coffee, either.

The taste is different than anything else that I have tried and takes some getting used to.  But it wasn’t completely disgusting to where I could no longer drink it (like Kombucha).

This drink offers many heath benefits along with added energy:

1. It enhances Digestive Function

2. Makes you more alert

3. Supports weight loss (This is NOT a weight loss supplement!  Do not think that if you start drinking these, you will lose weight.  It has simply been shown in a few studies that it has helped some people lose excess weight.)

4. Freshens breath

5. Boosts your immune system

Although there is information on the web about this causing esophageal cancer, there have not been any definite studies to show this.  This is also only for the hot yerba mate products.  This type of cancer has also been seen in patients who consistently drink hot beverages (i.e. coffee).

So if you are looking for a boost in the afternoon, morning, or even at night, grab one of these and not coffee.

  1. Hey! Quick question that’s totally off topic. Do you know how to
make your site mobile friendly? My website looks weird when viewing
from my iphone 4. I’m trying to find a theme or plugin that
might be able to correct this issue. If you have any recommendations, please share.
    Thanks!
